Working with primary sources

If you’re studying history there’s nothing quite like using the original historical documents. They give you a feel for the period and a flavor of it that you just can’t get any other way.

To that end, Manitobia.ca has a good collection of pre-Confederation Canadian newspapers from around Manitoba. They’ve scanned them in and you can click on individual articles to see them in a larger (and more legible) format.

Don’t bother with the search feature. It doesn’t seem to work most of the time and when it does it’s very slow.

Despite the search engine, this is a great little site that’s incredibly useful for a high school Canadian history project.
