Whether you’re doing an art project, creating a newsletter, or making a project in English or Social Studies, having pictures that you can use legally is pretty important.
There’s a lot of good sites for that.
- Picfindr (which I haven’t had a chance to try) claims to search the Net for public domain pics.
- MorgueFile is my personal favorite source of pictures. They’ve got good, high resolution pictures that all sorts of folks have contributed and you can use them for free.
- ImageBase has a very cool database of photos that are apparently the work of David Niblock.
- Wikimedia Commons houses most of the photos from Wikipedia and its related projects. It’s an amazing resource for anything from pictures of Queen Victoria to shots of banyan trees.
- Free Digital Photos is also pretty good. It’s good just over 3,000 photos, so it’s very possible you won’t find what you want.
If you start digging around, there’s a lot of great sites with free photos. You need to use these because legally you’re not allowed to just take other people’s pictures without permission and we need to teach our students this very basic aspect of copyright law by modelling it ourselves.
