At an inservice yesterday, we were introduced to some very cool Bible software. Online Bible is a great package that includes a couple of different versions, some commentaries, and a couple of devotionals. There are expansion modules you can download to add a couple of more Bible versions and commentaries.

This is all free, so naturally most of the Bible versions are dated since they need to be in the public domain. While that means a bit of old fashioned English in your Bible translations, this is more than made up for by how searchable the whole package is. You can search for phrases, ideas, and can even find “Strong’s reference numbers” in the package.

If you’re doing research for your Bible class or trying to learn more in order to integrate your faith into your other lessons, this is a great (and free) little piece of software.

If you’re working through a Bible class, or even doing something on world religions, there is probably no better web site to access the Bible than Bible Gateway. It boasts dozens of languages and translations, and is fully searchable. (I rarely use a concordance since I discovered this site.)

I thoughte everyone knew about this site, but I’m discovering talking to my Christian school colleagues that that’s not the case. With the relatively recent addition of audio versions, and various study aids this site should be a welcome addition to any Bible class.

If you’ve ever wondered where a particular town in the Bible was located, there’s probably no simpler way of finding out than this site. Simply go to Bible Map, pick the book of the Bible and chapter, and then click in the text on whatever town you want to locate. The site can locate the town on a map, but you can also get a satellite view which shows what the area looks like today.

The site is in beta so not everything works quite right. Saturday everything was great but this morning I’m having trouble getting it to run and I’m not sure why. None the less, the site is worth a look. When the bugs get ironed out this will be one cool addition to a Bible course.
