Teach with Music
Filed Under English, History, Music, Social Studies | Leave a Comment
Teach with Music is a neat little site that encourages you to, well, teach with music. There’s a surprising number of cool songs about all kinds of historical and political topics. This site brings many of them together, especially ones with significant Canadian content (and it’s hard to find a site that lists those). Many of the songs come with lesson plans, and a few have links to recordings of the song.

Cool or weird math? Pi redefined
Filed Under Math, Music | Leave a Comment
Some sites you just have to go to in order to believe they’re for real. This particular site tries to play Pi, that wonder 3.14… number that never ends and helps explain how circles work. Well, if you wondered what it would sound like if you gave musical notes to each of the numbers in Pi, this site has gone and done that. It has an interesting result and in some orchestrations sounds almost good. It’s an odd idea but kind of interesting.

Music need not be expensive
Filed Under Music | Leave a Comment
One of the costs of having a band program at your school is sheet music. That, of course, ain’t cheap. There are two sites to the rescue. Enter the Sheet Music Archive and the Mutopia Project. Both sites offer downloadable versions of classical style sheet music.
And it’s free. Can’t beat that price.
It’s true you’re limited to classical so if you want jazz, or big band or something these are not the sites for you. The sites offer a wide range of composers and style, so if you’re willing to work with classical, these are the Internet destinations for you.
