The Dancing Dog: Another typing game?
Filed Under Typing | Leave a Comment
I’m not sure who set up this website, or, for that matter, why, but this unusual site allows you to type in simple commands such as “dance,” “run,” or “jump” and then you get to see a short video of a dog doing exactly what you typed.
It’s pretty cutesy, but it’s a neat effect to be able to tell a web page what to do. Beginning typists might have fun with this. The commands you can type in are obviously fairly limited so this page, while it might still be fun, would not be challenging enough for someone who’s been taking typing a while.

Finger Jig is the latest typing site of the many I’ve found on the Internet. This one is similar to the rest expect:
- It has no cool graphics.
- You don’t get to shoot anything down.
- It has an amazing dictionary of words to type, meaning you can end up typing some really difficult stuff at times. 70,000 words in the dictionary means you’re unlikely to type the same word twice in any one session.
It’s not fancy, but it’s a good solid typing site and worth a look.

Axis of Evil Typing
Filed Under Typing | Leave a Comment
One of the things my colleagues look for online more frequently is a good typing game. A great one I found yesterday, though a little odd, is Axis of Evil, from FreeWebArcade.
The premise is that North Korea is lobbing nuclear missiles at the United States. The U.S. hasn’t yet got its defence shield active so you have to shoot down the North Korean missiles by typing the words on them. While that’s pretty odd, the level of typing is challenging. The words are longer than a lot of games I’ve tried and lot more obscure, and if you make a mistake while typing a word it seems the missile it’s on speeds up making it harder to intercept in time.
As I said, it’s a weird premise, but a challenging typing game.

Hunting for cool typing games for a colleague, I found this site yesterday: Free Typing Games. This site has a lot of games. I tried a couple yesterday and found them fairly challenging. My current favorite is a Space Invaders variant where you shoot down ships by typing the words under them. Each level, of course, gets faster. Very fun.
